Dreamlike Photos of Chilean Landscapes by Owen Perry

There is something special about the light in high-altitude places, and these airy photos of Chile’s Atacama Desert provide some telling proof. The pics come courtesy of Whistler, British Columbia-based photographer Owen Perry (aka Circa 1983), who journeyed through the South American country last December, and got more adventure than he bargained for:

Featured here are locations in the Atacama Desert, including Valle de la Luna, Salar de Atacama and Mano del Desierto. There are also two images from Santiago, which happen to be the final shots I captured with my D600 before having it taken from me at knifepoint a couple days later in Valparaiso. Fortunately, I had a back-up camera and was able to capture the trip north into the Atacama.

We discovered the pics on ISO50, the design pseudonym of Scott Hansen, who makes electronic music under the Tycho tag. For more from Tycho, check out this excellent video we posted last year. Also the new mix he made for The Fader is the perfect audio equivalent of Perry’s photos.
