Vik Muniz Recreates Famous Paintings with Recycled Paper

  • Posted by SHFT on July 13, 2012 in Art
  • You might know Vik Muniz as the man who makes massive installations out of landfill trash. There is even a documentary about his compelling garbage art. Now the Brooklyn-based artist is back on the scene with a new collection of amazing recreations of classic paintings made from torn magazine scraps.

For Pictures of Magazine 2, on display at Galerie Xippas in Paris, Muniz used fragments of magazines to create impressive reproductions of known masterpieces by the likes of Van Gogh, Manet and Cézanne. Using recycled magazines as an art medium is nothing new, but these works from Muniz are on a whole other level of beauty and detail.
