The video for lead single off Dead Man's Bones debut album, released in fall 2009, is a mesmerizing piece of work. Directed by the duo themselves (actor Ryan Gosling alongside Zach Shields), "Dead Hearts" got a huge helping hand from set designer Jed Hathaway, known for his work on the stop-motion Adult Swim show "Robot Chicken." A strange and wonderful short film....read more
When not producing hard-hitting journalism from the front lines of COP15 (yaawwwn), or suing the pants off the other WWF (pardon me, WWE), the World Wildlife Fund occasionally drops a great little animated video, like this one here. ...read more
This charming video for indie pop champs The Whitest Boy Alive (a side project of Erlend Oye from Kings of Convenience) is an oldie but an amazing-y. Released in 2008 (i.e. ten thousand years ago in internet time), the video features drawings by L.A.-based graphic designer/artist Geoff McFetridge, who tries hand at animation – and wins. Previously featured on SHFT: McFetridge's wallpaper......read more
Animator, Eric Power does extraordinary work. With Drifwood, he made the short for Troika Moonshine 300, a group of writers who are tasked with creating short stories (300 words or less) based on 3 words given to them by another artist. Power was allowed to interpret his words visually. The words were: driftwood, poncho, and sacrificial. The piece is a beautiful example of art and nature -......read more

The French film directed by H5 (Ludovic Houplain, Francois Alaux, Herve......read more

Martin's freestyle skating, harkening a young Rodney Mullen, is something to behold. The Spanish Powell-Peralta pro pulls off flat ground, ledge, and wall tricks that seem scientifically impossible. Set against the ancient......read more

Just when we thought the stop-motion craze had lost steam, this one "popped up" (sorry, had to) and put that idea to bed. Using a clever pop-up book idea, "Revolution" tells the engaging story of a drop of water as it moves through the hydrologic cycle. The animation was a collaborative effort between photographer Chris Turner, illustrator and "paper engineer" Helen Friel (check out that......read more
The spark that started SHFT was a simple act of sharing between friends. Adrian and I would email each other an article on a new sustainable product, a great video or an interesting post. We would get inspired and excited by these digital gifts. Adrian sent me a link to OVERVIEW last week and it reminded me of those early emails. We hope you find it as awesome and humbling......read more
