Beirut, "The Rip Tide"

  • Indie folk band sets sail against a gorgeous backdrop of colors

In the first two and half minutes of the new video for "The Rip Tide," the title track from Beirut's 2011 LP, director Houmam Abdallah presents us with the scene of a sailboat cutting through an endless sea. It's serene and meditative, a nice visual accompaniment to a great song, and it didn't prepare us in the least for what happens next. We won't spoil the ending for you, but hang in there until the three-minute mark and your eyes will be rewarded. Trust us.
