With gas prices in California hovering toward $5 per gallon, there's plenty of incentive for auto buyers to opt for a fuel efficient vehicle. Now there's even more motivation, with the announcement that buyers of the 2012 Ford Focus Electric -- recently named America's most fuel efficient five-passenger car -- will get a $2,500 state tax rebate. Focus Electric drivers will also have the luxury of beating traffic in California's high-occupancy vehicle lanes.
The $2,500 rebate can be combined with the $7,500 federal tax credit, shaving $10,000 off the Focus Electric's $39,200 sticker price.
"Californians have a legacy of embracing electric vehicles, and programs like the Clean Vehicle Rebate Program provide an excellent incentive for the continued wider adoption of electric vehicles," said Ford sustainability director John Viera.
This is welcome news, we're crossing our fingers for a much-needed boost in EV sales in Cali.
