Clark Little's Stunning Shorebreak Art

  • Posted by Neil Simonton on March 21, 2012 in Photography
  • Photographer Clark Little isn't content to shoot pictures of the ocean from the safety of land. To capture his incredible images of waves smashing into the sand, the North Shore, Oahu native goes directly into the breaking waves themselves. It's a practice that's not for the faint of heart. But as a longtime shorebreak surfer who has spent the better part of four decades in some of the world's most famous waves, he has the chops to pull it off.

"What I love the most is getting thrashed around in the shorebreak," Clark said. "I truly love a clean beautiful day where the waves are just thick and gnarly and where you have some fear. Good fear, if you know what I mean, more of an adrenaline rush with excitement. I kind of strive for that."

Clark's stunning photos of breaking waves are collected in a book, The Shorebreak Art of Clark Little.
