Disaster in Japan: How to Help

  • The disaster in Japan has all of us wondering what we can do to help. There are a bunch of groups doing work on the ground and there are lots of ways to get involved. Here are a few:

    Red Cross: Visit or text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 from your phone.

    Save the Children: To make a donation, click here, call 1-800-728-3843, or text JAPAN to 20222 to donate $10.

    GlobalGiving: Working with other organizations like the International Medical Corps, GlobalGiving's Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund has already raised over $100,000.

    International Medical Corps: Global nonprofit is accepting donations online for their emergency response efforts. Or you can text MED to 80888 from any mobile phone to give $10. 

    Doctors Without Borders: Has sent medical teams to assist victims. Donate here.

    UNICEF: Donate here to help UNICEF help children recover from the trauma of the disaster.

    Salvation Army: Help provide shelter to stranded commuters in Tokyo. Make a donation online or text 'JAPAN' or 'QUAKE' to 80888 to make a $10 donation.

    Convoy of Hope: Donate to this disaster relief nonprofit online or via phone by texting TSUNAMI to 50555.

    If you're in New York, go check out an earthquake benefit concert this Sunday featuring Sonic Youth, Mike Patton, and Yoko Ono.
