Food Tripping Across America: Phoenix, AZ

  • Follow the humble skyline of downtown Phoenix a few blocks North and you'll find yourself driving along Roosevelt Row, through the center of the arts district. Little do you know what food adventures await for you in this desert oasis in Southern Arizona.

Turn onto 5th Street and in one of the historic homes, you'll find JoBot Coffee. Grab a 'toddy'- cold brewed coffee and enjoy one of the 350 days of sunshine Phoenix has a year. Once you're feeling amped from your coffee, walk through the numerous locally-owned businesses in homes - like Lawn Gnome Publishing or the small organic farm and chickens on site at Grow House around the corner.

Next is the Phoenix Public Market - a weekend tradition among locals. It hosts no less than 13 farms, 20+ local food artisans and food trucks, all surrounded by downtown Phoenix. Talk to Maya herself from Maya's Farm, grab some fruit and spicy arugula and try some fresh goat cheese from Crow's Dairy.

You can’t leave Phoenix hungry so head to Gallo Blanco Café. Although they don't make a big deal of it, everything on the menu is GMO free, which only enhances the great-tasting Mexican. You can't go wrong with a house Margarita or a Michelada, guacamole with fresh orange slices, and an array of tacos.

And if you are in Phoenix this Sunday, join the city for the annual Check, Please! Food Festival. With 30 different restaurants participating, it is bringing some of the best eateries in town to CityScape in downtown. This weekend also marks the 11th Annual McDowell Mountain Music Festival with great lineups Friday through Sunday. Whatever you choose to do this weekend, Phoenix has you covered.
