Incredible Embroidered Photos by Diane Meyer

  • Posted by Neil Simonton on January 7, 2013 in Art
  • For her series Time Spent That Might Otherwise Be Forgotten, Santa Monica-based artist Diane Meyer added embroidery to square sections of photos she shot during time spent in New Jersey, Italy, and the American West. Using the time-honored craft of hand-stitching, Meyer created pixelated squares on the snapshots, making a multi-layered comment about nostalgia and photography. According to the artist, "The project refers to the failures of photography in preserving experience and personal history as well as the means by which photographs become nostalgic objects that obscure objective understandings of the past."
