Knitters Help Penguins After Oil Spill

  • Posted by Neil Simonton on October 26, 2011 in Conservation
  • When a container ship ran aground off the east coast of New Zealand earlier this month, blue penguins were some of the many animals affected by the oil spill. An NZ knitting shop called Skeinz came up with the ingenious and adorable idea of asking volunteers to donate tiny sweaters to prevent the penguins from injesting the oil while preening. The donations have been pouring in. What a creative way to help!
