Light: LED Installations by Bruce Munro

If these pictures are any indication, Bruce Munro‘s first-ever large-scale solo show won’t be his last. In “Light,” the British artist fills 23 acres of Pennsylvania’s Longwood Gardens with six outdoor installations, two interior projects, and a collection of illuminated of illuminated sculptural works. Subtle environmental commentary informs the entire project, from the “Waterlilies” piece composed of hundreds of spent CDs, to the LED lights used throughout all the works.

“Creating these pieces allows me to communicate some of my feelings about the importance of cherishing the environment,” writes Munro in his artist’s statement. “Initially I used discarded materials to save on costs. Soon material choices also became the subject matter of the installations. For me, there has to be a reason—however idiosyncratic—for everything I do and these days I am drawn more and more to the idea of creating an experience that is gentle on the landscape. This is not environmental flag-waving. t reinforces the idea that reality is simply a beautiful improvised dance that lives in the moment.”

Couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
