River of Youth

This short film, from Kiwi photographer/director Derek Henderson, captures the serene beauty of the Waikoto River in central New Zealand. Commissioned last year by The Anthropologist, which is quickly becoming a SHFT fave, River of Youth was shot via inner tube over the course of a day. The river itself has a deep meaning for Henderson — his mom grew up on its shores and used to swim in the waters as a child.

From the description:

As a child, there is something fabled about your family’s stories of their youth. For photographer Derek Henderson, those epic tales always took place along the banks of the Waikato River in central New Zealand. In this short, serene film, Henderson physically and figuratively dives into the same waters his mother swam decades ago.
